Sexual abuse is any kind of sexual physical contact (caressing, fondling, sexual assault, and rape) committed by force, against a person’s will, under coercion, or by surprise.

Did you Know it?

• An American is sexually assaulted every two and a half minutes. About 44% of rape victims are under 18; about 15% are under age 12.
• Research indicates that 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys will be sexually victimized before adulthood.

What to Tell Children (book excerpt)

• Do not answer a stranger’s insistent questions and do not approach them.
• Walk in groups when going to school or returning home. Do not walk alone in dark alleys.
• Refuse any drink or food from a stranger. Some sexual predators use a drug called GHB to hypnotize their victims before abusing them.
• Do not give out personal information to a stranger on the Internet, and do not make appointments to meet strangers met online.
